Microneedling uses fine needles to create small, controlled punctures in the skin. The resulting repair response can stimulate collagen production, which is why the approach is also called collagen induction therapy. Collagen is a structural protein that contributes to the skin’s support and texture.
In clinical skin care, microneedling is used for selected concerns such as acne-scar appearance, uneven texture and fine lines. Changes develop gradually as skin repairs; treatment depth, the concern being addressed and individual healing influence the course.
The consultation reviews your skin, medicines, recent procedures, current products and history of healing or pigmentation changes. The treatment area and recovery plan are selected before the session.
Products used around the appointment are chosen for skin compatibility and aftercare needs. Gentle skin care supports recovery, while active ingredients or irritating products may need a temporary pause according to your instructions.

Redness, tenderness, swelling or a sunburn-like feeling can follow treatment. Recovery care centers on gentle cleansing, suitable moisturization, sun protection and avoiding unnecessary irritation.
Follow the written aftercare plan for makeup, exercise and restarting skin products. Skin repair takes time, so progress is reviewed between appointments rather than judged only immediately after treatment.
Active infection, inflamed skin, poor wound healing and some medical treatments can affect suitability. Microneedling can cause bleeding, bruising, infection or pigment changes. Your medical and skin history are reviewed before proceeding.

Microneedling studies support considering this approach for selected atrophic acne scars. Skin type, scar pattern, device and technique matter; your provider should explain how the research relates to your proposed treatment.
2022 · Systematic review and meta-analysis
The review supports improvement in acne-scar appearance with non-radiofrequency microneedling in the studied comparisons. Scar types, devices and protocols varied; results do not establish the benefit of a particular AcuMicro device or topical product.
2021 · Systematic review
Included trials reported improvement in atrophic acne scars with microneedling-based treatments. Some studies used combination or radiofrequency techniques. The authors called for larger studies and longer follow-up.
2019 · Randomized split-face trial
Microneedling-treated facial areas improved on acne-scar scores, with improvement comparable to the topical treatment in this small trial. The trial assessed acne scars, not general rejuvenation or all skin concerns; it was not a trial of this clinic’s protocol.
Microneedling creates small punctures in the skin and has a specific recovery plan. A facial skin-care appointment is a separate service.
Skin repair and collagen production develop over time. The review schedule and any further treatment are based on your skin’s response.
Microneedling creates controlled punctures in the skin. Surface-level nano treatment is a different approach with different depth and recovery needs; the options are selected according to your skin and goals.
